(o´ω`o)ノ 5 animes recommended by a non-anime fan

Okay let's all admit something to ourselves. One time or another, we have forced a friend or family member to watch an anime because we knew it was something they might enjoy. We really shouldn't be forcing people to watch anime with us (because let's be honest, it can be seriously weird sometimes), but we just want someone to enjoy it with us!

80% of the time, they didn't enjoy it, but sometimes they were a part of the 20%! I was curious to see what were the most recommended by the 20%, so I asked a few groups of people what they enjoyed. Here are 5 anime recommendations from non-anime fans!

1. Sgt. Frog

This is one of my favorites, and everyone I've forced encouraged to watch it has enjoyed it. A frog-like alien named Keroro comes to Earth with the intention of taking over, but when he is discovered by the Hinata family, he is forced to do household chores and gains an obsession with assembling Gundam models. Read more and watch here.

2. Attack on Titan

I LOVE this one! I don't love that it's become one of the trendy animes (darn hipster side), but there is a reason why it is so popular. It has amazing plot twists and a very intriguing storyline. Definitely one of my favorites. Hundreds of years ago, humans were practically exterminated by the Titans. The Titans are several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence and the worst part is, it doesn't seem like they need to eat humans as a source of food in the first place. The few humans left over built extremely high walls and enclosed themselves inside as protection from the Titans. Fast forward to the present, the city has not seen a Titan in over 100 years. Eren Jaeger and Mikasa Ackerman are forced to join the war as a colossal Titan breaks through the wall, forcing the human race deeper into the walls with little hope for survival. Read more and watch here.

3. The Devil Is A Part Timer

My husband does NOT like anime. But when we saw this on Netflix, he actually seemed interested. So we both watched it and we actually liked it a lot! It even helped me figure out his preferred genre of anime, which means I'll have an easier time forcing introducing him to other shows.

In an alternate dimension, the Devil King Sadao and the Hero Emilia are in the midst of a war when Sadao is forced to escape to another dimension known as Earth. On Earth, he notices that those with jobs "rule the world", so he gets a part time job at a fast food restaurant. Read more and watch here.

4. Tokyo Ghoul

This isn't one I have seen myself yet, so I can't give any input, but I've heard very good things about it!

Ken Kaneki is a bookworm college student who meets a girl named Rize at his favorite cafe. They have a lot in common, so they quickly become friends. What Kaneki doesn't know is Rize is a ghoul; a monster that lives on human flesh. When part of her is transplanted into Kaneki, he becomes a ghoul himself and is trapped in a warped world where he is at the bottom of the food chain. Read more and watch here.

5. Fruits Basket

I personally wasn't as big a fan of these as the others on this list. It was a little too slow and calm for me. I'm the action and magical girl kind of otaku. Tohru was also way too positive for me. (I know, I know, who tf says that) But for those who are into romantic/drama/comedy shows, this is perfect. It's a great tear jerker that really makes you fall in love with the characters.

Tohru Honda is an orphaned girl who is invited by her classmate, Yuki Sohma to live in his home. When she gets there, she discovers that the entire family is cursed, and, when hugged by the opposite gender, are turned into animals of the Chinese Zodiac.  Read more and watch here.

Most of these aren't very new, so you guys have probably seen them, but if you haven't, give them a try! And drag a non-anime fan with you along the ride. (。^_・)ノ
